Now that the web site appears to be running at least reasonably smoothly there is no real need for me to repost their news letters here. The latest information is always available at the site address:
http://www.beautyfrombrokenness.org.uk/
We have adopted this charity as the one we support when attending any event classed as "collect for your own charity". This is in addition to the British Heart Foundation tin which we will always have available.
As a result of this I appear to have become a father, or possibly grandfather to Sinka.
Sinka aged about 10 - 12 weeks |
Sinka was dumped on the doorstep of one of the Beauty from Brokenness feeding stations at Christmas aged about two weeks.
This is the second picture I've received of him showing off his new baby clothes, nappies, powder etc. An improvement on the towel they had to wrap him in when he first arrived. His next big hurdle, after surviving this far at all, will be the results of his HIV tests. There is a high probability that his natural parent are AIDS suffers, hence his being left at the station. Please pray.
Beauty from Brokenness at the moment doesn't have an orphanage but I'm told it looks like they've started one now as he's the second child to arrive this way. The first has been "adopted" by Jenny, B from B's founder and now I've adopted the second one. After 63 years a batchelor I suddenly feel quite paternal.
Below is the latest newsletter for B4B.
This info should be on their website - http://beautyfrombrokenness.org.uk/ but last time I looked it wasn't.

Breaking the bonds of tradition to follow Jesus
Thembisile had always feared and revered her ancestors.
Like so many young women she had been taught they watched over her life. For
Thembisile, her predecessors still lived beside her in the family home – in the
lounge, bedroom and the kitchen. If the family moved, the ancestors were
invited to come too. Sometimes, the family sacrificed animals to appease them.
But Thembisile wasn't happy. Her father had left the
family when she was small. Her siblings had left home and her mother had
recently died leaving her to look after a granny with mental health problems.
But now Thembisile was ill too. All her visits to traditional healers had not
helped her condition, - and her ancestors had done nothing to alleviate the
situation either. In desperation she joined a queue to attend a mobile clinic –
and that is where she met Lungi a Christian worship leader and Sunday School
teacher. Soon she was learning about the love of Jesus. She had never realised
that she could be forgiven and accepted. Soon she was reading the Bible and
learning the Gospel message. Before long she had taken off her occult amulets
and started to attend church. Now she follows Jesus.
Forum Update
Both Melanie and Futhie have experienced bad health in
recent months. Melanie is currently undergoing tests for a painful but
undiagnosed condition while Futhie has been hospitalised to have a
hysterectomy. Meanwhile, the 'Forum' continues to dispense food and prayer to
all-comers.
Please pray
•
for the volunteer team at this vital outreach station.
•
For Thembisile as she grows in her Christian faith.
THEY
ARE JUST CHILDREN BUT THEY HAVE AN ENORMOUS RESPONSIBILITY
Thobile and Thokozqne Dzimba take their responsibilities
seriously - they have to - they are responsible for
keeping the family
together. The twins, who aged just 8, are HIV orphans. and look after their
grandmother who has severe health problems. Thobile (left) was born with a
deformed right leg that restricts her mobility. This however has not stopped
her from helping Thokozqne wash and dress their elderly relative and prepare
food for her before they go to school. When both their parents died of AIDS
granny gave the girls shelter – but is too ill to look after them. So the twins
have become responsible for cooking whatever food they can obtain, and cleaning
the small dwelling they all share in Imjandini township.
Nkosi Sizwe aged nine is a young man with big
responsibilities. .He too cares for an elderly relative, his only family. He
does his best but finds life hard.
Nkosi, Thobile and Thokozqne represent many thousands of
children who are responsible for elderly relatives – and the problem is rapidly
escalating.
Please pray
•
That Thobile and Thokozqne's HIV status will not
develop into AIDS
•
That help can be found to share the work-load with the
girl's grandmother.
•
Countless other children who face life with the same
problems and are forced to take responsibility in situations that seem
hopeless. Pray for their strength and health.
•
Beauty from Brokenness is committed to helping young girls
in Thobile and Thokozqne's school with sanitary arrangements.
